TOBOGGAN |
|
The
basket work ox cart or toboggan has been a typical sight
in the island since 1850. This means of transport, made
from wicker work, is controlled by two men, dressed in
white and known as “carreiros” who guide the toboggan
down the steep slopes. Speaking of ox carts, these can
still be seen in parts of the island. They are fashioned
with wicker and the seats are decorated with bright
colours. They look like sledges and are pulled by two oxen,
driven by a cattleman |
