Leaving
Fonte do Bispo to the west and crossing road 204 you see a
signpost indicating “Galhano”. Follow the path and after
about two hours descent you will find the levada which has
its source in Ribeira da Janela. If you wish to go to the
source of the levada, walk in the opposite direction (there
and back 50 minutes).
Please note that you will need suitable footwear and a torch,
as you will pass through eight tunnels. In one of these, the
water gushes out of a crevice leaving the floor completely
wet.
This is one of the most fascinating walks, not only for the
spirit of adventure, but also for the lush vegetation,
Laurissilva and varied landscape.
After a total of approximately seven hours you will
arrive at the Lamaceiro reservoir certain in the knowledge
that this walk was worth all the effort.
