Arriving
at Achada do Teixeira you will walk for about 3 kms before
reaching the Pousada do Pico Ruivo which takes about an
hour. There you will find signs indicating the routes to
Pico do Arieiro or Pico Ruivo and back. Note that the
start of the walk to Encumeada only begins a few metres
higher up.
Right from the start it is necessary to take great care
when crossing the slippery parts.
It is about 16 kms to Pico Ruivo the most difficult part
being “A Boca das Torrinhas,” as there are ascents as
far as Pico Jorge. You begin the descent until you arrive
at Pico da Lapa da Cadela and then Pico Jorge from where
the Ribeira dos Socorridos and the church of São Martinho
are visible.
