Viola Paradoxa Lowe

Herbaceous perennial. Prostrate to suberect, ramose stems, reaching 30 cm, and woody at the base. Crenate leaves, up to 1.5 x 1.5 cm. Ovate to ovate-orbicular, acute to obtuse basal leaves, with a wedge-shaped to truncate base. Spatulate or lanceolate, upper leaves. Solitary, axillary flowers. Bright yellow corolla with some black veins, 2-2.5 crn. 5 unequal petals, the lower petal, largest.
Rare plant which inhabits rocky areas, in rnountainous central region of Madeira, at altitudes of 1600-1800 m.
