Sorbus Maderensis

Deciduous shrub, 2-3 m in height. Smooth, reddish-brown stems. Compound leaves, 5-15 cm, with (11-)13-17 elliptic, oblong or lanceolate leaflets, 1-4.5 x 0.5-2 cm, crenate, green and glabrous above, lighter and slightly pubescent beneath, mainly along the midrib. Numerous small flowers, borne in terminal compound corymb, 2-7 x 3-9.5 cm; whitish to cream-coloured petals, obovate, 3-4 x 3-4 mm. Fleshy, spherical fruits
(pomes), 8-13 mm, maturing to red.
Extremely rare plant which inhabits rocky slopes at high altitudes in mountainous central region of Madeira, from 1500-1750 m.
